Everything You Need to Know, Clearly Explained

We believe transparency builds trust. Here you'll find clear, honest answers to the most common questions about our programs, process, and expectations.

Getting Started

How do I get started?

Easy. You don't need to "get in shape first" or figure anything out ahead of time.

You just reach out, we learn a bit about your goals, and then we get you in for your first session. We'll guide you through everything so you're not walking in wondering what to do or where to go.

Think of it like this: You show up. We handle the rest.

What happens during my first visit?

No awkward gym wandering. No guessing. No "uhh… what do I do now?"

We'll welcome you in, talk through your goals, and take you through a simple, coach-led workout that matches your current fitness level.

It's designed to do three things:

  • Make you comfortable
  • Show you how we train
  • Help you leave feeling better than when you walked in

That's it. No pressure. No ego. Just a solid first step.

Do I need to be in shape before joining?

Nope. And honestly, that's kind of the whole point.

Most people start because they're not in shape yet. That's normal.

You don't need to "earn" your way in here. We scale everything to you—whether you're starting from scratch, coming back after years off, or just tired of doing it alone.

Memberships & Logistics

What membership options do you offer?

We've got a few different options depending on what you want:

  • Structured coached training (most popular)
  • Semi-private training
  • Open gym access

Most people don't need more options—they need the right structure. That's why most of our members go with coached training. It keeps them consistent without having to think about what to do next.

We'll help you figure out what actually fits you, not just what sounds good on paper.

Is there a contract?

No long-term contracts.

We don't lock people in—we help people stay because they're getting results.

Simple month-to-month membership. If it's working, keep going. If it's not, we talk about it like adults.

Can I freeze my membership?

Yes.

Life happens. Travel, work, family, chaos—you name it.

If you need to pause, we make it easy so you're not paying for something you're not using.

Training & Experience

Is personal training included?

In many of our programs, yes—you're getting coached sessions built into your membership.

This isn't "here's a workout, good luck." It's:

  • A coach with you
  • Adjusting your form
  • Pushing when you need it
  • Scaling when you don't

If you want more individualized 1-on-1 attention, we also offer that.

How are workouts customized?

Short answer: everything is scaled.

Longer answer: we meet you exactly where you are. Got knee pain? We adjust. Never lifted weights? We teach you. Been out of the gym for 10 years? Perfect, we start there.

You don't need to "catch up." We build from your starting point.

Adults 40+

Can I train if I have knee, back, or shoulder issues?

Yes—and honestly, we see this all the time.

Most people don't come in feeling perfect. They come in feeling stiff, sore, or unsure what their body can even do anymore.

We work around pain, not through it. And over time, most people actually start feeling better because they're getting stronger in the right way.

I've never lifted weights before. Is Synergy right for me?

Yes.

You don't need experience. You don't need confidence. You don't even need to know what a dumbbell is yet.

That's literally our job. We teach you step-by-step so you're not guessing, stressing, or feeling behind.

GRIT Athlete (Youth Training)

What ages do you work with?

Middle school and high school athletes looking to get stronger, faster, and more confident in their sport.

Training is always age-appropriate and coach-led—no random workouts thrown at kids.

What sports do you train for?

All of them. Soccer, football, wrestling, baseball, lacrosse, track—you name it.

We don't just train "sports skills." We build better athletes overall:

  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Durability
  • Confidence

How often should athletes train?

Most athletes train 2–3 times per week depending on the season.

  • In-season = maintain and stay healthy
  • Off-season = build strength and performance

We adjust based on schedule, sport, and goals.

Want to Get Started?

If you've read this far, you're probably at least a little curious.

Best next step: come in and try a session. No pressure, no long commitment—just see if it feels right.

Real People. Real Results.

People just like you are getting stronger, losing weight, and feeling better than they have in years — because they finally have a plan and a coach who cares.

I just joined Synergy and have had great experiences in my short time visiting the Vestal location. The trainers do an excellent job coaching and helping you to work towards your personal fitness goals. Aside from the training there are so many activities to participate in that are opportunities to challenge yourself to grow stronger and social opportunities to meet some great people.

I'm actually Vivian Eubank under my husbands google...in any event I have been coming to Synergy for almost a month now. My sister has been there for 2 years and finally convinced me to come with her. I think the trainers are very nice and knowledgeable and (I've only had 3 different ones so far). Actually everyone in the gym itself from trainers to other clients are all very friendly. I think it's awesome that you have a trainer all throughout your session. My visits help a great deal after sitting around all winter. I can feel myself getting stronger. I go with my sister Laurie each time which makes it even more of a great experience each time. I like that the scheduling is flexible so no matter when you go you will have a great trainer and it's personalized with no competition with anyone else but yourself. The trainer keeps you at your level...(me beginner lol) and always make sure you do each task correctly as to make sure you don't injure yourself. All in all this is one of the best investments in myself I've ever made.

When you live with chronic pain, you'll try just about anything that might help. I was gifted a FRT session with Caroline. I really was just expecting to feel relaxed and (perhaps) more limber. After an hour on the table I was completely shocked at how amazing I felt. I was walking taller, did not feel constricted while walking, and the dull/hot/achy pain was gone.....for two days!!! The movements are so gently, you don't realize all the beneficial work that is happening. She showed me things about my body that I had no idea were negatively impacting me. She then illustrated how she was adjusting movements because of this. Caroline is incredibly compassionate, talented, and very knowledgeable. Highly, highly recommend!!!!

Synergy is so many things; it’s difficult to express in words the energy and positivity this community infuses into your life!💓 A dear friend gifted me a trial 2 years ago, and I have never looked back. I had been committed to working out for many years with classes and gym memberships, but never realized what was missing. Synergy is people caring for people, with exceptional trainers who listen, educate, mentor and guide….who encourage and applaud your efforts and successes, and who lift you up when you truly need it. They are a 2nd family to me❣️ I am stronger in body and mindset and addicted to my workouts! 💪 Not showing up is never an option. I am humbly grateful to Synergy and it’s outstanding staff🌻 UPDATE 2026 Highly recommend this supportive community!! Synergy is beyond a 5 star experience, to become the best version of yourself with strength and confidence. It educates and encourages, builds and inspires our young kids and athletes with the GRIT program and it meets every adult where they are in life! The trainers are always there to provide the best possible instruction and guidance to support and encourage success. They take the time to know you and greet you with positivity every session. I have seen amazing results in body strength and confidence and it has helped me age gracefully! Thank you to my Synergy family!

I’ve been working out at synergy for a few weeks now and it’s honestly been the best gym experience I’ve had. I’ve done everything from kickboxing to polo in the past but developed a medical condition making it harder for me to work out. I was nervous getting back into the gym but everyone has been very welcoming, understanding and mindful!

9 years ago - I wrote this review: I have completely changed my life thanks to the help of Synergy. Working with personal trainers has helped me achieve my goal of weight loss, but I gained so much more in return. I have a confidence level has soared well beyond that of fitness. And most of all, I feel welcome. Although I have faced some personal hurdles over the past 9 years, I returned to Synergy around 2024, and I do not regret it. The trainers are highly knowledgeable and supportive. The other members are also quite supportive. This isn't a scan-a-card-and-anonymously-work-out type of place. It's a community.
